Antique map of Scotland by Abraham Ortelius, c.1584. This map was published in Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, which was issued in various years in the late 1500s and early 1600s. This map has 1584 hand-written on the back in pencil. It shows Scotland with towns and cities, some topography, the near islands including the Orkneys and Hebrides. Decorative cartouche and the ocean has a ship and a sea monster. A previous owner extended the margins somewhat clumsily but this can be hidden under a mat when framing. Overall good antique condition with some minor spots/stains, and some small areas of paper loss that have been filled. Measures approx. 14 x 16.75 inches to the neatline.
